Recording ECG using electrode gel pad on paws is a simple yet effective alternative. We suggest it to customers when pet patients, cats in particular, are not taking the traditional approach using alligator clips comfortably.
The electrode gel pad comes with layers of conductive gel and an adhesive sticker. Applying electrode gel pad to the paws, which have no hair for dogs and cats, makes the recording process faster and easier, and therefore patients are less uncomfortable.
This approach is especially helpful for cats, who are known for their sensitivity and active nature. It would be equally useful for dogs by simply attaching the electrode gel pads to the paws of their right arm and left limb respectively.
From our experience, the electrode gel pad on paws showed promising results to serve as an ideal alternative ECG recording approach for both dogs and cats when the traditional alligator clips approach does not seem to be well accepted by the pet patient.
