Dr. Andre de Mattos Faro, Our Featured Veterinarian
We are excited to introduce Dr. Andre de Mattos Faro, as our featured veterinarian for this issue. Dr. Faro is the Director of Veterinary Education and Surgery at Green Dog Veterinary Hospital, United States. Dr. Faro earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Santo Amaro in 2001, followed by a Master’s, PhD, and Postdoctoral Fellowship in Veterinary Surgery with a focus on oncology at UNESP in Jaboticabal, Brazil. With over a decade of academic experience as a Tenure Associate Professor at multiple federal institutes in Brazil, he is now serving as the Director of Veterinary Education and Surgery at Green Dog in California, USA. Dr. Faro is recognized for his expertise in oncologic surgery and his dedication to advancing veterinary surgical education.

Q1 : How would you introduce yourself in 3 words?
A : Passionate, precise, resilient
Q2 : At what age, did you decide to become a vet?
A : My passion for veterinary medicine was born when I was 14, after I saved a severely injured dog by suturing its wounds while alone in a remote area. That experience was transformative and confirmed my calling to dedicate my life to animal care.
Q3 : What do you like the most for being a vet?
A : What I value the most in my veterinary career is mentoring students and early-career veterinarians. Helping them grow—whether through simple procedures or complex surgeries —has been one of the most rewarding parts of my journey.
Q4 : One sentence that describes your value as a vet.
A : As a committed veterinarian, I strive to provide thoughtful, evidence-based care in the field while supporting the growth of future professionals.
Q5 : Can you share one memorable moment in your career as a vet?
A : The most memorable moment of my veterinary career has been when mentoring students and recent graduates—helping them navigate their own challenges, from simple procedures to complex reconstructions, laparotomies, or thoracotomies. Watching their growth has been as rewarding as any successful surgery.
Q6 : What is your expertise (pursuing focus)?
A : Soft tissue, oncologic and reconstructive surgeries are my areas of expertise.
Q7 : What do you like the most about CardioBird?
